JUMBO S.A.'s main operation is retail sale of toys, baby items, seasonal items, decoration items, books, and stationery. The company was incorporated in 1986, and expanded to 112 stores, 54 of which are located in Greece. For this project, EB/Architects applied an inside-out design approach, meaning that the layout rules for merchandising shelves, and the request for maximum utilization of selling areas, determined the allocation of spaces and functions in an extremely tight and awry envelope, defined by urban regulation boundaries and the irregular shape of the plot.

Aesthetics and visual quality were accomplished through the composition of volumes that corresponded to distinctive functional sections such as retail, administration, storage and services. Emphasis has been assigned to the entrance volume which was formed as an irregular white volume with slanted surfaces and a glazed facade which contrasted to the blind colorful paneling of the main retail box. This project has been a turning point for the development company (www.pdpco.eu) which for the first time embraced and supported the implementation of Building Information Modeling methodology for the design and project management of a Jumbo facility.

Arguably, the Iasmos project has been the first commercial project in Greece designed with BIM, incorporating Architectural, Structural and MEP Modeling.
