The National Gallery was founded in 1900 and has collections covering a period from the post-Byzantine years to the present day, including more than 20,000 works of painting, sculpture, engraving and other art forms.

The renovation and expansion will add 11,040 sqm of exhibition areas, a new auditorium, an educational venue, a reception, museum shop, as well as a third-floor restaurant with panoramic views of the Acropolis and Athens.

EB/Architects multifaceted scope had as a common denominator the application of innovative and pioneering BIM supported services:

• A complete BI Model, incorporating all disciplines and trades has been developed and used as a basis for providing comprehensive training to the site team and to be used as an assisting tool through the construction process.

• The Museography Design by Parmenidis - Longuépée Architects has been developed by EB/A up to the level of Construction Documentation and Shop Drawings and accompanied with accurate 3D visualizations, live virtual walkthroughs and 3D panoramas to provide accurate and complete input to the Site Team and to the involved sub-contractors. Due to this pioneering method of delivery the need for clarifications has been minimized and the overall construction process has been expedited.

• A complete 3D laser scanning survey for all areas included in EB/Architects’ scope was followed by an accurate representation of the existing conditions in the respective BI Model. Scan to BIM technology facilitated the resolution of overly complicated coordination issues and minimized risk in the execution stage.
