The apartment wings of this Serviced Apartments Prototype are designed to rotate around the entrance volume, with façade systems adjustable to the orientation, targeting minimum exposure to the severe Saudi Arabian sun.
moreThe MODON Serviced Apartment Building is a prototype project for a facility to be repeated in multiple cities under development by the leading Saudi Industrial Property Authority.
The building consists of 3 clearly distinct elements.
The entrance building, or Building C is a cylindrical volume that is also the center of the composition and the pivot point to which the two other linear elements are attached.
7 types of apartment units, differing in typology and size are accommodated in Wing A (5-storey) and Wing B (4-storey), with public spaces and facilities occupying the Ground Floor of Wing B.
Adjustability in different orientations related to sustainability considerations and shading needs has been a critical factor for the design of the building’s envelope. Morphology and volumetric development of each facade corresponds to sun-shading requirements based on simulations performed using dedicated energy analysis software. The overall sustainable and energy conscious approach of the design has been awarded with a Gold LEED Certification.
